Moving Past Betrayal

Betrayal is hard to get past; especially when it is someone you love and have given your trust to.

It is already a sting when someone you do not know well, or an acquaintance or someone in business betrays you. However, it is a whole other thing to have someone you love or have grown to trust and invite into your circle to betray you. That one act can leave you wounded and struggling to trust others who deserve your trust.

Once trust is broken, it can never be the same again. Something different is rebuilt—if you should continue to have any kind of relationship with the person who betrayed you. Let's face it; nine times out of ten, it is someone you love; perhaps a family member or a spouse, or close friend, whose betrayal cuts and hurts the deepest, and more than not will continue to be a part of your life.

Certainly we can and have ended relationships over trust being broken; over betrayal of what we believed was an understanding and mutual respect, love, and concern for each other. Many times, it cannot be fixed—no matter how much you work on it—depending upon the level of betrayal.

As the person betrayed, it is paramount to move past the betrayal and not get stuck in a moment of time that will keep you hostage and unable to build healthy relationships moving forward. we have to be honest with ourselves and confront any and all issues that arise. Moving past betrayal can be difficult but it is possible and necessary for who you are and the life you desire to live.

We cannot betray ourselves and our future by allowing the insensitive and hurtful actions of others to keep us from living our best lives and avoiding future relationships that God has ordained for our lives. We have to be able to deal with the betrayal and move past it in order for our heart mind and soul to be receptive of what is waiting ahead of us.

Betrayal often leaves wounds that run deep. That is why it is necessary to confront it, deal with it, and then begin to heal from it so that we can have an open heart and mind what awaits us in the future. Do not give that person or persons any more of your time or space in your heart and mind. Allow healing and growth to come as you receive all that God has ordained for you.

Psalm 55:12-23

My enemies are not the ones who sneer and make fun. I could put up with that or even hide from them. 13 But it was my closest friend, the one I trusted most. 14 We enjoyed being together, and we went with others to your house, our God.

15 All who hate me are controlled by the power of evil. Sentence them to death and send them down alive to the world of the dead.

16 I ask for your help, Lord God, and you will keep me safe. 17 Morning, noon, and night you hear my concerns and my complaints. 18 I am attacked from all sides, but you will rescue me unharmed by the battle. 19 You have always ruled, and you will hear me. You will defeat my enemies because they won’t turn and worship you.

20 My friend turned against me and broke his promise. 21 His words were smoother than butter, and softer than olive oil. But hatred filled his heart, and he was ready to attack with a sword.

22 Our Lord, we belong to you. We tell you what worries us, and you won’t let us fall. 23 But what about those people who are cruel and brutal? You will throw them down into the deepest pit long before their time. I trust you, Lord!
